Mindlin, Joan G.

Joan Mindlin, 97, of Overland Park, passed away peacefully, Jan. 25, 2018. She was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Trinidad, Colorado, to the late Leo and Hulda Gottlieb.

 

Joan grew up and lived in Trinidad, Colorado, until she went to college at Seattle Women’s College where she was one semester away from graduating when she met her husband, Stanley H. Mindlin. They were wed on Dec. 18, 1944. Joan’s life was dedicated to her family. Her husband’s work took her to a wide variety of places including: Kansas City; Clinton, Missouri; St. Louis; Louisville; Ohio; Virginia; Edmonton Alberta, Canada; Chicago; Milwaukee and ultimately returning to Kansas City in 1990. 

Joan was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Janet M. Scarbrough.

She leaves behind her son, Harold Mindlin and wife Barbara Jane of Austin, Texas; daughter, Barbara Kovacs, of Overland Park, Kansas; son-in-law, Steve Scarbrough; 10 grandchildren, Emily Kovacs, Brandan Kovacs, Megan Arrington, Danny Scarbrough, Amy Knollmeyer, Julie Mallcott, Mark Scarbrough, David Coe, Diane Booher, Leslie Kornsgold and 18 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to JDRF Kansas City Chapter, 215 W Pershing Road #300, Kansas City, MO 64108.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at The New Reform Temple.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Village Shalom, Carol Dale and Seniors Helping Seniors for their compassion, care and support.
